The 09L Program supports language-specific Advanced Individual Training (AIT) to U.S. Army Interpreter-Translators at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. Specific language support tasks are identified in the 09L AIT Program of Instruction (POI); however, the DLIFLC 09L Program is also engaged in providing follow-on instruction to the 09L Soldiers as they progress throughout their military careers. In addition, courses are also provided to the Translation-Interpretation (T&I) bureaus located in the Combatant Commands.
The 09L Program consists of five instructors and a program manager. Five instructors (Arabic, Farsi, Dari and Pashto), as well as the Program Manager, are permanently stationed at Ft. Huachuca. Two instructors deploy, as needed, on temporary duty to provide language familiarization instruction in Arabic.
Since FY04, more than 1,300 Soldiers have graduated from the 09L AIT.The 09L AIT Course has changed significantly over the years. Initially, the AIT course was taught at Ft.
