How to Apply:

To apply for teaching positions in other locations, you must follow the instructions below. The FPS office is no longer accepting mailed in applications. All previous vacancy announcements have been closed.

Instructions for How to Apply:
1. Go to the USAJOBS Website: www.usajobs.opm.gov (Click Here)
2. Click on Search Jobs.
3. In the Keyword Search enter: Defense Language Institute
4. All jobs for the Defense Language Institute will appear. You may also search by your specific language.

The length of courses will vary but do not exceed six weeks. Courses are intensive, and the classes are limited to 6-8 students. Faculty members may teach a class alone or in teams. Teachers teach six hours a day for six weeks. Classroom preparation is done before a six-week class starts. There are one to two weeks between classes, during which teachers do their research and class material development. Fort Bragg offers basic courses. These announcements are used to solicit applications to fill current and/or future vacancies.

Benefits:

Tenure-track and tenured faculty members are eligible for group health and life insurance, retirement and additional retirement similar to 401K. After one year of service, they may receive up to 40 hours of one-time absence or travel to a foreign country to enhance professional capabilities and classroom performance. Full-time positions also receive: paid federal holidays, and paid vacation and sick time.

Language Evaluation:

The minimum English proficiency is a Level 2 and the minimum proficiency for the language to be taught is a Level 3 in speaking as defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Skill-Level descriptions, which are posted in the DLI catalog at www.dliflc.edu or at Government ILR. Recommended applicants only are required to take formal language tests to determine their language proficiency. If you are selected to be tested, you will receive a call from the Testing Division. All language tests are performed telephonically. If you fail any portion of the language tests you will be disqualified from further consideration and your file will be retired. You may reactivate your file after 6 months. Retesting is only allowed once and is at the discretion of the FPS Office.
