Sergeant Major Elaine Grant
ergeant Major Elaine Grant is a native of Hartford, Connecticut. She enlisted into the Army in 1989 and attended basic
training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Sergeant Major Grant completed training as a 35N Signals Intelligence (SIGINT)
Analyst at Goodfellow AFB, Texas and the Arabic basic course at the Defense Language Institute, Monterey California. As her
first permanent duty station, she was assigned to the 311th Military Intelligence Battalion (MI BN), 101st Airborne Division
(Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. While assigned to the 311th MI BN, she reenlisted and was further assigned to the
Regional Security Operations Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia. While at Fort Gordon, Sergeant Major Grant was selected by the
Department of the Army to attend Drill Sergeant School. In addition to the Drill Sergeant Course, she is also a graduate of
the Primary Leadership Development Course, the Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, the Advanced Noncommissioned Officers
Course, the Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officers Course, the Air Assault Course, the Basic Airborne Course, the Advanced
Airborne Course, the Army Basic Instructor Course, the First Sergeant Course and the Sergeants Major Academy, Class 55.
Sergeant Major Grant held a myriad of leadership positions from squad leader to first sergeant. From 1999 to 2003, she was
assigned as a platoon sergeant and SIGINT Collection Manger for the Analysis Control Element (ACE), 319th MI BN, 525th MI
BDE (Airborne). During that tour, she deployed as part of CJTF-180 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
She served as First Sergeant of Delta Company and Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 102nd MI BN, 2nd Infantry Division,
Republic of Korea. Upon graduation from the Sergeants Major Course, Sergeant Major Grant was once again assigned to the
Republic of Korea and served as the theater ACE Sergeant Major, 532nd MI BN. She is currently serving as the Installation
Sergeant Major for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center.
Sergeant Major Grant’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), the Joint Service
Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), the Good Conduct Medal, National
Defense Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on
Terrorism Service Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award (1 OLC), the Senior Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge and
the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge. Sergeant Major Grant has a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern Studies from American
Public University and Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College.
