Dean’s Welcome:
Welcome to the website of Middle East II. We are currently teaching Modern Standard Arabic and some of
the major Arabic dialects such as Iraqi in this school. Enrollment is open to military personnel and
other government agency employees.
The School of Middle East II is one of the nine language schools at DLIFLC on the Presidio of Monterey,
California. It is located in Nisei Hall. There are currently four Arabic departments where almost 100
faculty members teach students intensive Arabic language courses. The faculty members are native
speakers of the Arabic language and come from some 10 different countries. The instructors, who teach
Modern Standard Arabic, the Lingua Franca spoken in Arab countries, bring the richness of the Arabic
culture and language to the school.
Each Arabic department consists of four to five teaching teams, with five or six civilian instructors.
In addition, two to three military instructors (MLIs) are assigned to each department and contribute to
language instruction in coordination with different teams. Each team provides instruction for up to 30
students.
