Command Sergeant Major

Command Sergeant Major Matildo Coppi, was born in Texas and entered the United States Army August 1, 1991. CSM Coppi has served in a variety of leadership and staff positions including Team Leader, Squad Leader, AIT Instructor, Drill Sergeant, Senior Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Professional Development NCO, MI Branch Team Lead, First Sergeant, Combined Intelligence Operations Sergeant Major, Brigade Operations Sergeant Major, and Command Sergeant Major.

CSM Coppi's assignments include two separate tours with the 102nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Korea; 66th Military Intelligence Company, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Ft. Bliss, Texas; 309th Military Intelligence Battalion, Ft. Huachuca, Arizona; First Sergeant, C Company, 104th Military Intelligence Battalion (OIF 1), 4th Infantry Division, Ft. Carson, Colorado; Military Intelligence Branch, Human Resources Command, Alexandria, Virginia; First Sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade (OIF 7-8), Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Operations Sergeant Major, 470th Military Intelligence Brigade, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas; Command Sergeant Major, 717th Military Intelligence Battalion, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Command Sergeant Major, 344th Military Intelligence Battalion, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas.

CSM Coppi's military schools include Advanced Individual Training, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Drill Sergeant Course (exceeded course standards), Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course (exceeded course standards), Basic Airborne Course, Battle Staff Course, United States Army Sergeant's Major Academy Class 59 (exceeded course standards), Battalion Command Sergeant's Major Designee Course, Military Intelligence Pre-command Course, and the TRADOC Pre-command Course. CSM Coppi holds an Associate of Applied Science in Intelligence Operations from Cochise College, a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Intelligence Studies from the American Military University. He is a Spanish heritage speaker.

CSM Coppi's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLCs), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (7 OLCs), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award), National Defense Service Medal (1 bronze star), Iraqi Campaign Medal (3 bronze stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (4th award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award), Valorous Unit Award, and the Army Superior Unit Award (1 OLC).

CSM Coppi has been awarded the Airborne Badge, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold), and the Drivers Badge (Track and Wheel). CSM Coppi has been recognized as the 309th Military Intelligence Battalion NCO of the Year (1996) and the 309th Military Intelligence Battalion Drill Sergeant of the Year (1997 and 1998). CSM Coppi is a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and a recipient of the Military Intelligence Corps Knowlton Award.
