Wounded warriors at AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Golf Tournament

Standing next to the scorer's trailer were Air Force Col. Terry Bare and Army Capt. D.J. Skelton, talking to golfers and celebrities about the Wounded Warriors program founded by Skelton, Echo Co. commander at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey

Skelton was seriously injured in Iraq.

"He started the Wounded Warriors program to help folks in the military who were injured to get back on their feet and get back into action," Bare said of Skelton.

"The most intense time in Afghanistan and Iraq was 2003 and '04," Skelton said. "We created Wounded Warriors. We have dedicated leaders to make sure their transition is smooth and they get all their benefits."

There are members of the PGA Tour and some celebrities competing here who are involved. Bare and Skelton spent time Friday at Poppy Hills talking more about the program, saying nothing of that nature existed during the Viet Nam era.

The program is making a difference. Further information is available at any of the U.S. military branches' Web sites.
