Senior defense attaché shares experience with FAOs

Hooper, the senior defense attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, shared advice and some of his life experiences with Foreign Area Officers at the Presidio of Monterey Jan. 13. A Joint Foreign Area Officer Course is organized each year by the DLIFLC FAO office, gathering officers from all four branches of the military for several days to teach new FAOs and their spouses about their future career path and what will be expected of them while working abroad. “You (are expected) to act as a combat multiplier…FAOs are always shaping. 2014 POM Chapel Tree Lighting Ceremony

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – Community members turned out for some holiday cheer during the Presidio’s holiday tree-lighting ceremony at the Presidio of Monterey Chapel Dec. 4. Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center Commandant, Col. David Chapman was on hand Thursday evening December 4, 2014 at the Presidio of Monterey Chapel to participate in a countdown of the Presidio of Monterey Annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. Families, friends, and even pets showed up for the event. All were in a festive mood while participating in the countdown and sang Christmas carols while greeting Santa Claus who arrived on a shiny red fire engine. 11/15/2014 DLIFLC holds 73rd Anniversary Ball The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center held its 73rd Anniversary Ball on Nov. 1st, with more than 350 faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends in attendance. The event, sponsored in part by the DLI Alumni Association and Foundation, was held at the Naval Postgraduate School’s historic Herrmann Hall, in Monterey.The guest speaker for the event was Ambassador Daniel Smith, Deputy Secretary for Intelligence and Research from the Department of State.”The Defense Language Institute is a world renowned organization and has no peer when it comes to producing the quality and quantity of linguists,” said Smith, thanking the faculty and staff for their contributions to national security by training some 3,500 students in 23 […]

Top DoD official says DLIFLC the premier foreign language provider

Presidio dedicates building to Medal of Honor recipient

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. — More than 100 people turned out for the ribbon cutting and dedication of the Presidio of Monterey’s newest instructional building in honor of a Medal of Honor recipient and language graduate here Oct. 17. Building 618 is now known as “Cook Hall,” in memory of Marine Corps Col. Donald G. Cook. The building was officially opened after a ribbon-cutting ceremony outside the building followed by a dedication ceremony inside. During the ribbon-cutting event, Presidio of Monterey Garrison Commander Col. Paul Fellinger, U.S. Rep. Sam Farr and Cook’s son Thomas Cook cut the ceremonial ribbon. 2014 Ready & Resilient Campaign

09/05/2014 DLIFLC and Presidio of Monterey kick off Ready and Resilient campaign The Presidio of Monterey kicked its Ready and Resilient wellness campaign Sept. 4 with the signing of a suicide prevention proclamation, a buddy pledge, a prayer for the fallen, and a moment of silence.The proclamation and buddy pledge was signed by Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center Commandant Col.
