A quarter century after 9/11: DLIFLC’s defining moment
Twenty-five years after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center can look back on a moment that fundamentally transformed its mission, resources and role in national security.
Just months before the attacks, newly appointed DLIFLC Commandant Col. Kevin Rice was confronting a series of seemingly unrelated challenges. The Institute faced mounting financial pressures, including soaring utility costs and an unfunded locality pay increase for faculty and staff.
