Eric M. Murray
Command Sergeant Major Eric M. Murray is a native of Audubon, Iowa and enlisted in the Army in April 2002 as a Cryptologic Language Analyst, 98G.
He attended basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, followed by language school at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at Presidio of Monterey, and Advanced Individual Training at Goodfellow AFB, TX.
Command Sergeant Major Murray has served in every leadership position from Team Leader to Brigade Command Sergeant Major. He has served as an LLVI Team Leader, Cryptologic Language Analyst Supervisor, Division Training NCOIC, Senior Instructor/Supervisor, AIT Platoon Sergeant, S3 NCOIC, First Sergeant, BDE Operations Sergeant Major, USAICoE G3 Sergeant Major, and 719th MI BN Command Sergeant Major. He currently serves as the Command Sergeant Major for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey.
His stateside assignments include Fort Drum, New York, Fort Gordon, Georgia, Goodfellow AFB, Texas, Presidio of Monterey, California, Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He has served overseas in Korea and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Command Sergeant Major Murray’s military education includes the Korean Basic Course, Cryptologic Language Analyst Course, CEWOC, Pashto Basic and Advanced Courses, Warrior Leader Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Master Resilience Course, SHARP Certification, Senior Leader Course, Basic Instructor Course, AIT PSG Course, the Company Commander/First Sergeant Course, the Sergeants Major Academy, Battalion and Brigade Pre-Command Command Sergeant Major Development Courses. His civilian education includes Associate of Arts degrees in Korean and Pashto from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and a Bachelor of Arts, Intelligence Studies from American Military University (Cum Laude).
Command Sergeant Major Murray’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart (2nd award), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5rd award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd award), Army Achievement Medal (10th award), Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 CS), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (3rd award), NATO Medal, Senior Army Instructor Badge, Combat Action Badge, the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold), the German Shutzenschnur (Gold), and the Austrian Sports Badge (Advanced).
